Resolved Question: Homophobic, racist, intolerant friend?
I’ve been friends with this girl since 7th grade. I love her to death, she is my sister from another mother. But she is SO judgmental. I live in Bible belt Oklahoma and her parents are really cool and stuff, but y’know… They aren’t all that accepting of “different” people (artists, feminists, anti-hate groups…). I’m NOT condemning Christians, so I don’t want any anti-Christian BS on here. Keep that to yourself, please.
I am an extremely tolerant person. My friend is not. Currently, she has a boyfriend who she sexes all the time (she has done it with three different guys in the past two months, and she has the nerve to say other girls are slutty) which I have no problem with, because I like sex too. But her idea of fun is going downtown and making fun of all the black people, the asians, the homosexuals… It is disgusting to me that she drags me into these things.
Right now, I am her only friend (she is a very immature girl who really doesn’t know much about the world at all, even though she thinks she does. She thinks not picking sides in a fight is being two-faced, she thinks dressing up in cheap jeans and a Yankees t-shirt means she is “preppy”, she thinks Obama is going to turn the country into a socialist country - she doesn’t even know what that is. Oh, and, she thinks she is a Blood - she puts a red flag on the antenna of her car and blasts Lil Wayne with the windows rolled down, even though she hates black people. She is ALWAYS saying the N word - she’s just a douchebag.)
Anyway, I just need some support. I’m not going to stop being her friend, because she no longer has any except me and her BF. I want to be able to tell her that I am a bisexual without her FLIPPING out. I want her to stop telling me that when she sees gay people she pukes. I want her to stop being a bitch to my little brother, she puts him down and he is really sensitive. If I tell her to stop doing something (when we were on the northside of OKC, she wanted me to put up her little blood flag and I told her no, she’s not a blood, she’d get shot.), she gets so damn moody and immature and thinks that I’m not being a “sista” and won’t talk to me for a week (not that I mind - she comes over EVERY DAY). I don’t know how to tell her to stop doing what she is doing without crushing her. I don’t mind if she is just being herself, but there is a limit to how unaccepting you can be! People are different! She seems not to realize this! I just need some encouraging words. I really don’t want to let her go, because she only has me as support. I’d feel too bad, and she really is my sister, even if we are so different. Maybe I’m just not being accepting of her. She knows how I feel about gay people and black people and artists and she accepts that (thankfully), but she won’t stop dragging me into her hatefests.
Dude, she’s not really my sister…

Resolved Question: Is Downtown Oklahoma City a good place to live for a college grad?
I’ve been given a few choices for my next rotation at my job that I got after graduating this past may, I won’t be moving till June (from Dallas) but I’m getting my research done early.
When I say Oklahoma City to my friends everyone cringes, but from what I’ve read there has been some huge downtown revival in the past few years.
What I’m looking for is an upscale/urban area, walking distance to bars, and a decent amount of young people. I love the city life, and while it wouldn’t be my first pick OKC is a city so it’s on my radar of places to move to. Any suggestions of specific areas to live?
